Station.4 by Kaioshen Station.4 by Kaioshen
"Damaged and worn, almost obsolete but still functioning - sounds familiar. What was once a thriving space station used for science and medicine, now old fighter pilots call it home when they have nowhere else to go. One day it will be decommissioned, like the rest of us, tossed away and forgotten like it never existed. Until the moment comes it will serve its purpose, or until it gets shot to hell and blown up... or we run out of booze. Why is it always the booze?!"

Technically it's not a new piece, but a pretty well edited one. It is an update of my Outpost piece, which you can see here: [link] This should be the only piece out of all my older work that I will ever update, so I won't be boring you with anymore haha. But anyway, I hope you enjoy the new mood and details - which were especially fun to do as always.

Be sure to check out the original version for a comparison!

Excellent work. The texturing is sublime. Would you care to talk about your process/technique at all?

Thanks. The station model was done in 3dsmax a few years back, the texture work was painted and edited with photoshop and then brought back into max for rendering using vray. Same thing goes for the planet and asteroids. After all of the rendering was completed, I took all of the elements and finished it in photoshop.

Hope that helps. :)

Hey, thanks for the reply =D
Are you entirely hand-painting the planet textures or are they photo-based? Either way, impressive detail there in particular.

It's a mixture of both really. I lay on a texture and then paint in/out parts that I do or don't want in. Depends on the scene and planet and what I'm going for.

Nice - there's something "Eggletonny" about the light and paint.

I like the depth created by the blackness of space. The contrast gives it a dramatic edge. Cheers :)

Nice, this feels a lot more concept arty almost (but very refined) and the other movie-still esque. I like both lol.

It's kinda like how you sometimes see really old buildings that still have people living in them even though from the outside they look like they're a thousand years old  You can't help but think that the only reason they are still there is because it would cost too much to make a new one, but eventually it will fall apart to the point its no longer usable, then destroyed and lost forever :ohnoes:

Kinda scary how much the things we make follow the same path as we do :paranoid:

That's quite nice - I love the scale implied by the earth-like planet in front of the giant gas planet! :+fav: fave! :)
