New matte paint, tried to capture a serene, calm atmosphere within the scene. To be honest, I thought twice (more than that actually) about uploading this and my next image, but anyway here it is. I hope some people will find enjoyment out of it.
This image can be found within the latest Luminarium exhibit, Illuminate II at [link] so go take a look at the other art displayed in the gallery as well as past exhibits.
Nutshell: A strong piece in every aspect, this piece bears a scarce few flaws.
Vision: Any strong piece of art draws the viewer in, though this piece makes you desire an extended stay. I have no complaints in this category.
Originality: The building structure is nice and consistent and the water is lovely. It is a truly unique scene.
Technique: The only complaint I have in this category is the nearest building; the shadows are just a bit too perfect, bearing with it a bit of jagged light. Noticing that, I discovered grievances with the texture of the building itself; while the texture it nice, it is a low enough resolution to give away the fact that the building is artificial. Another way to help this out would be to add some smoothed edges (especially on the edges of the pointed towers), erosion cracks, or degenerations. Also, I cannot tell if the boat’s shadow is in the proper place; it is excruciatingly close to perfect, but I just cannot quite make it out.
Impact: Initially, and zoomed out, the piece is so breathtaking that one wants to get a closer look. But seeing the closer building, however, sort of brings one back to reality.
Overall: An extremely well done piece and, barring a few problems, near perfect execution. If the haze covering the backdrop, the ethereal blur of “epic fantasy/sci-fi realm,” were applied to the closer building and perhaps the nearer two gazebo-looking structures, this piece would be perfect.
